Director of Human Resource at the Ministry of Health, Dr Akwasi Asabir has described nurses at the Nalerigu Nursing and Midwifery Training College as “ungrateful” health practitioners.
His comment comes after videos and photos in which some students of the training college were seen chanting “JM we’re sorry”.
The students stormed the rally grounds at Nalerigu on Day two of former President John Dramani Mahama’s ‘Thank You Tour’ of the Northeast region, clad in their school uniforms and NDC paraphernalia to “beg” the NDC flagbearer to come back to power.
The purpose of the tour was for John Mahama to interact with the Chiefs, opinion leaders, community members and executives of the NDC in the various constituencies.
But the students, numbering about a hundred stormed the rally grounds holding placards that read, “JM we're sorry, nurses’ need you back” and “Ghana Economy is in coma”, and knelt before the former president amidst wailing.
Dr Akwasi Asabir who was speaking on the issue on NEAT FM’s morning show ‘Ghana Montie’ noted that management of the school have rendered an apology to government for the ‘uncultured’ behavior of their students.
He said the school “do appreciate what government is doing for them” – and described the students act us “unfortunate”.

Please tell us the employment Mahama provided for the nurses ...For your information Mahama did not employ any Nurse.. Because of IMF they froze employment on Nurses.. Secondly Nana Addo did not only employ the nurses but restored their training allowances..Now even some of the trainee nurses will be getting Jobs outside the country.. Please if u well informed then ask your self the reason why this will happen if its not stage managed.. It doesn't make sense.. Some of their collegues have even been employed on the NABCO programme
Problem is they protesting in their school uniform when school was in session, even when they were NOT participants to the meeting. It makes it look like a staged or planned event and makes the school culpable. Knowing what JM did with Ayari-cough, It will not be surprising JM staged this protest. Just take a close look at the photograph.
I will advice the govt not to investigate this but issue a statement that they should not engage in any political activity. Any investigation of this becomes fertile ground for the opposition. If our politicians get into govt they don't use their consience anymore. Nana B and the rest are just playing into the hands of the NDC
MOH was is your PROBLEM? You can identify these so-called nursing students. Take them OFF the 'alawa'. They don't like it. Simple! The issue with Ghana is that EVEN those we think are educated can be manipulated why not the illiterate. That is what NDC likes, to DECEIVE the people all the time, but NEVER again!
During election 2016, BAWUMIA went to Damango Nursing School and talked to students. Did anyone call them ungrateful? As for NPP, they are very vindictive and Intolerant. Shame on NPP. Is it a crime to have diverse opinions? Let's VOTE them OUT in 2020.
NO WONDER MAHAMA GHANAIANS HAVE SHORT MEMORY. NPP BE FOCUS AND MOVE THE NATION FORWARD
Nana Addo has gotten his reward already, they voted for him and he is now President. What other gratitude does he need. That all nurses should forever bow to him? Why should the Nurses be eternally grateful to Nana when he only fulfilled less than half of what he promised. And is the money coming from his pocket.
You cannot engage nurses in kitchen. You have a futuristic president who built hospitals ,chip compound to employ nurses, doctors, paramedics, lab technician, security men, cleaners. Go to legon medical hospitals, maritime hospital in Tema. Ridge ultra modern hospital, Dodowa hospital. John Mahama is a hero, substiruted .much talked students allowances for sStudent Loan for the vulnerable and built world class hospital. Posterity will judge Mahama for expanding health infrastructure, eliminate quota for admission into nursing.
Shame on you Akwasi Asabir or whatever your name is. Continue to bootlick and sleep on the floor for politicians to walk on you. Shame!!!!!!!!! Allow the students to express their free will
Withdraw their allowance and give it to those who need it most.
