If the National Democratic Congress would want to see President Akufo-Addo feel he is running unopposed against their candidate in the 2020 election, then they should present former President Mahama, Mr. Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, has suggested.
The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party believes there are several controversies surrounding the return of the former President as flag bearer of the NDC and concedes that it will inure greatly, to the progress of the NPP in the future.
According to Mr. Bernard Antwi-Boasiako popularly referred to as Chairman Wontumi, Article 68 (2) of the 1992 Constitution states that :“The President shall not, on leaving office as President, hold any office of profit or emolument, except with the permission of Parliament, in any establishment, either directly or indirectly, other than that of the State.”
He further explained that until Parliament grants former President Mahama the permission to contest as President, he has no right to “dream about contesting the 2020 elections as leader of the NDC”.
The NPP Chairman noted that there is a likelihood the Article 68 (2) of the 1992 Constitution would be activated to prevent former President Mahama from breaking the laws of the land.
Chairman Wontumi explained that as outlined in the 1992 constitution of Ghana, any move by former President Mahama to contest the 2020 elections would be problematic.

Don't give heed to Mohamma and his pre-presidential ambition and let him come, it will take a catastrophic failure from Nana Ado and miraculous messege for Mohomma to win the 2020 election. Taking him to court will give him unnecessary apathy. Is important to note that with Mahomma being the leader of NDC in 2020 election would be a blessing for the NPP so why waist time on a ***barred word***? A word to a wise .......
THIS FELLOW IS HE EDUCATED? HE SOUND UNEDUCATED...
couldn't disagree more. Mahama at the moment is the best for this country no matter what. i think he is next after Kwame Nkruma. is a 4 year magic and imagine 8 years. times are now extremely tough and am sure you can all feel it even including the media. but they dont want to report it. you can also agree that Mahama did so grate but they are also not talking about it. well we are silent because soon the thumb will speak.
Someone should tell Chairman Wontumi that we in the NDC want Nana to win the 2020 elections that is why we are bringing Mahama so there is no need quoting the an article from the constitution and interpreting it wrongly for people to laugh at him.
MAHAMA DOESNT QUALIFY TO RUN AGAIN.I WILL MEET HIM IN COURT.
wotumi for this one di3 i no dey agree with u. were u the one who wrote the constitution? the constitution was written by ndc and they are the only ple who understands it. personally i want mahama to run bcos that is the only way we can get him to spend the stolen money for everyone to get some. he MUST contest in the 2020 elections whether he likes it or not. we need our monies back.
This wontumi guy is soo scared of Mahama that he doesn't know what to do of himself. Sometimes he speaks like a kid from kindergarten. He continue to lie to himself))
@ LAWYER WONTUMI. ONE DOESN'T HAVE TO BE A LAWYER TO REVEAL THE SECRETS OF THE CONSTITUTION. IT'S ALL LAID BARE FOR ALL TO READ THOSE WHO HAVE INTEREST CAN GOOGLE IT AND FEEL FREE TO READ.IF THAT CLAUSE IS CLEARLY PRINTED IN THE CONSTITUTION THEN HOW CAN MAHAMA CONTEST? WELL THIS IS GHANA EVERYTHING IS POSSIBLE.
I never knew the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP was now a lawyer. Eeiii lawyer Chairman Wontumi now you are quoting Articles from the constitution. I rest my case lawyer Chairman Wontumi
