Minister of Education, Mathew Opoku-Prempeh has fired salvoes at former President John Dramani Mahama.
The former President on Saturday criticised the Akufo-Addo led government for implementing a broad Free Senior High School (SHS) policy in haste.
He urged government to call for a stakeholders meeting to address challenges facing the Free SHS policy because it is stifling other developmental projects.
“The problem this government is facing and it is in their own interest, is that, Free Senior High School is absorbing all the fiscal space they have and so almost every money you have, you are having to put it into Free Senior High School. So you can’t pay District Assemblies Common Fund, you can’t pay NHIS (National Health Insurance Scheme), you can’t pay GETFund (Ghana Education Trust Fund), you can’t pay other salaries and things because all your money is going into Free Senior High School,” Mahama said this weekend, during the Unity Walk organised by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) at Somanya in the Eastern region.
But interacting with Kwami Sefa-Kayi in an exclusive interview on Peace FM's morning show ‘Kokrokoo’ Monday, the Education Minister sharply disagreed with the former President.
According to him, “if he wishes us bad, it will fall back on him…what does he want us to call a stakeholders meeting for?”
“While in office, he never bought one text for any school. Ask him where his policy document or guideline for his progressive free SHS is?.…there was nothing like that. You were not able to do it in your time and now that we have implemented it, you are complaining…he should tell NDC members not to take their children to school to enjoy the free SHS because it is not good…” he added.

JDM is casting aspersions at NPP because his brother lost the bid to explore the Nyinahin forest for the diamonds. Well he [JDM] should know that Ghana is not his private property and I support Napo for giving him a fitting answer. Baloney Mahama
Massa; you are just pathetic and amongst the less of species who seem to tow the line of the illogical thinking of this John Robber Mahama ; this is a man wwho enjoyed the benefits of free education from primary to university level besides most of his fellow northners did same during his time although his father was a fairly rich northner farmer ; today the same man who became a minister ; avice minister does not see the logic in spending a % of the state GDP to fund free education ; the mistaken northner of a thiff rather colluded to rob Ghana of so much of its resources and guess what most of these stillers were northners who emanate from the poorest past of Ghana ; massa go the the north and see the the immense paverty on display with humans sharing river water with their cattle and goats with their children out of school ; this same Jon Mahama and his northner colleagues prefer to build posh houses in Accra ; whilst they have their children call 'Kaya ' struggling on the streets of Accra without a place to sleep and sleep on the streets of Accra with their children ; what was Jon mAhama doing when he was in power and why is he calling for stakeholders meeting when everybody knows he has master minded the stilling of state funds into offshore account and other overseas accounts ; massa how do you cal Jon Mahama a leader when he leads a government to tell the IMF that they need a policy credibility to manage the economic affairs of Ghana when there are abundance of talent in Ghana; massa IKE ; Jon Mahama was and elected BIG mistake and credibilty suspect and MISTAKE hoisted on Ghanaians to teach Ghanaians a BIG lesson that cheating and lies does not help anybody -NEVER AGAIN !!!!!!
I urge the NPP to completely disregard John Mahama. He has no moral right to speak. It is a shame that he once occupied the high seat of president of this land. He is now jealouse and he is behaving like a divorced first wife.
John Mahama speaks like a Serial Caller. AT this age and level you should just act your position and not be speaking like some uneducated foot-soldier somewhere. You heard what the Minister said; "it is better to sit on the floor and be educated than to be on the road side". That is Wisdom!
Whether NDC likes it or yes "FREE SHS has come to STAY"John Mahama you can go and burn SEA.We will not eat Ghanaian money but we will spread for each and everyone to benefit. Mahama if you don't like Free Shs go and Burn the Sea. K.E.E.A say so
HMMMMM THE CJ LAST TWO WEEKS ASKED FOR A STAKEHOLDERS ENGAGEMENT THE MINISTER DID NOT SAY ANYTHING NOW THE FORMER PRESIDENT ASK FOR STAKEHOLDERS ENGAGEMENT AND HE BEEN INSULTED SO IT,S BAD FOR THAT SUGGESTION HMMMMMM
This so called minister is Arrogant. how can he talk like that. fuuulished man
Those who like criticizing others are allergic to criticism. What didn't Napo say about NDC while in opposition? I was expecting him to respond like someone with solution to the SHS problem and not to come out with his arrogant nature once again.
For 8 yrs what were you doing as president. CL&S was your HALLMARK. Tell your supporters not to send their wards to SHS
Mahama thinks he is the only wise person in this world, How can he be so naive that at the time he was exiting office he had an outstanding statutory payments (DACF, NHIS,GETFUND, etc.) for over a year at the time that his government was not funding any FREE SHS. He must rather commend this government for adding the FREE SHS to its commitments as it also reducing the huge debt he (Mahama) left behind. I thought they said he is a good speaker. He must better know that being a good speaker requires one to be honest, analytical, logical and depth to reality. I am ashamed that this man was once a president in our dear country Ghana.
