A leading member of the New Patriotic Party and Senior Partner at Africa Legal Associates (a private legal firm), Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, has condemned the arrest of NDC activist and serial caller Frank Kwaku Appiah popularly known as Appiah Stadium.
He believes the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, might even be "unhappy" about the incident.
Appiah Stadium was arrested by police in the Ashanti Region on Tuesday afternoon.
The Ashanti Regional Police PRO, ASP Juliana Obeng, who confirmed the arrest,told the media that they had a call from the CID Headquarters (Accra) to arrest Appiah Stadium.
The NDC serial caller was arrested for hurling insults at the President, H.E Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo calling him a ‘drug addict’ and describing him as a monkey among many others.
Though, the vociferous NDC activist has since rendered an unqualified apology to the President, a private Legal Practitioner and Member of Parliament for Asante Akyem Central, Lawyer Kwame Anyimadu Antwi said Appiah Stadium's remarks amounts to Criminal Conduct which is punishable by Law.
"Insulting the President or anybody is a crime under the criminal code 1960", he stated. He subsequently asked the police to take the matter up and prosecute him.
It is however unclear upon what grounds the police affected the arrest of the known NDC serial caller.
But in a Facebook post following the arrest, Gabby Otchere-Darko stated;
"these things shouldn’t happen. I can see the president being extremely unhappy about any citizen being arrested".
Appiah Stadium is currently being transferred to the Police CID headquarters in Accra.

Well brought up person from a responsible home wouldn't do what Appiah stadium did, who will be proud to have Appiah stadium as family member, if is something that you enjoy and love , why don't you tell your children or family members to do same, you always want them to be seen as well cultured, so that they would continue to occupy better positions in the country, Appiah stadium can attack Nana Addos way of governance, but not his personality. Those of you who are hailing him as if he has scored a World Cup goal, why didn't you do same when he insulted Ex president Rawlings
There is a saying that if you point your figure at someone, the rest four are point direct to you. We count the number of times people in NPP today use to called the former president? some called him ***barred word*** without any prove others called ***barred word***, gay and stuff.Even some elements in NPP also called Mahama with these names and some of them today are ministers others hold high offices today as we talk and no one then were ask to prove his or her allege names let alone been arrested. Typical example is Gender Minister OTIKO DJABA. She called the former president as WICKID and heartless man. When she was ask to withdraw that statement keke she refused and most NPP members were happy for s-i-l-l-y comment and today you are in pain and crying because the president is be called A DRUK ADDICT. If you don't worship people when they are leaders no one would worship you when you become a leader. To me agree with Gabby Okyere, arresting Appiah Stadium would not do the president any good but rather would draw more Ghanaians attention that to Appiah's comment.
Ghanaians are becoming too rude and their so called party representative should advice their members. People are not well brought up these days by their parents and they can therefore say whatever they want to say without reasoning.
Was the lawyer quoting the criminal code living in the moon when his party people were insulting president mahama? Now when Nana addo is insulted, criminal code is quoted. When barwumia wife was insulting Mahama where were you? Gabby, good comment from you. Freedom of speech must be encouraged. This is occupational hazard that comes with being a president and Nana addo and his CID should learn to live with it. No one saw mahama stealing anything, but they call him a tief.
Please release this man. He has apologized. Forgiveness if divine. Let go and let God. Let God be the Judge. This man went to great lengths to seek the help of some senior citizens to lead him in his apology. Let us move forward as a nation and not waste time on this. Let us not create the atmosphere for irresponsible statements from certain individuals.
i dont think gabby is now top security officer or, i think the police is doing their work and if good or bad, he gabby holds no official position in government. if his uncle the president is not happy, i think mustapha hamid, kojo oppong etc are there to say so or, we are sick and tired of these akyems ruling the country, LET STATE INSTITUTIONS WORK
