Some youth of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) from the Odododiodoo and Ablekuma South Constituencies in the Greater Accra Region stormed the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) to halt the swearing in of government appointees on Monday.
The youth accused the party’s regional executives of appointing people to the assembly who did not support their cause during the campaign to canvas votes for the then opposition NPP.
Samuel Ofosu, who is the Odododiodoo NPP Constituency Secretary, told Onua FM’s Yen Nsempa host, Bright Asempa that the suspended Constituency Chairman, Raymond Ntoana openly told them he could not work with the then parliamentary candidate, Nii Lamptey Barnnerman during the campaign, which he said led to his suspension.
He said due to this, his (Ntoana) name was not submitted to the NPP regional executives for consideration at the Assembly only for them to hear on Sunday that his name had been added and will be sworn-in on Monday.
“We will not allow them to swear him in because he never supported our cause”, the NPP Secretary explained.
“I will urge the NPP elders that we have worked for the party to come to power to put in place good policies for us and our aim for working for the party is not to eat today”, he added.
Mr. Ofosu wondered if they had all folded their arms and sat unconcerned like Mr. Ntoana, the party would have won power.
“We heard [his name being included] yesterday so we went to the assembly, but it was Sunday and as such there was no one there that is why we have come to stop it today,” he added.
