Minister-Designate for Works and Housing, Hon. Samuel Atta Akyea has chided the assertion of the Member of Parliament for Bawku Central, Hon. Mahama Ayariga that the appointment of Hon. Yaw Osafo Maafo as Senior Minister by President Akufo-Addo is unconstitutional.
The former Minister of Environment, Science and Technology has, in a letter addressed to the President, Nana Akufo-Addo asserted that the creation of the position of Senior Minister is an affront to the constitution; calling on the President to reconsider the nomination.
But reacting to the claim on Okay FM’s 'Ade Akye Abia' Morning Show, the lawmaker for Abuakwa South Constituency said it is shameful for Hon. Ayariga to raise such argument as Ministries like Agric and Energy are also not enshrined in the Constitution but have been set up.
“The issue Hon. Ayariga has raised is baseless because Ministry of Agric is not in the Constitution, Minister of Energy is also not in the Constitution; the only minister mentioned in the constitution is the Attorney-General in Article 88, and so I don’t know what he wants to say here,” he chided.
He added it is more embarrassing to hear a lawyer of his [Mahama Ayariga’s] magnitude to claim that the Senior Minister is equal to the position of Prime Minister; rating Hon. Yaw Osafo Maafo’s position equally powerful as President Nana Akufo-Addo’s.
“When you talk of Prime Minister, nobody supersedes him but with Osafo Maafo as Senior Minister, someone is above him and that person is President Akufo-Addo. So that analysis is baseless with all due respect to him because he cannot say Senior Minister is equal to Prime Minister,” he posited.
He explained that as the Chief of Staff is the Gatekeeper who liaison with the President, the party [NPP] and the whole nation, the Senior Minister monitors and reports to the President every activity of all the ministers; thus, Ministers can also seek for his opinion on issues.
“What Mahama Ayariga is saying is only found in his imagination. He is only expressing his view because we have Executive Presidency who should appoint Ministers to work for him . . . I don’t know but maybe he wants fame after his party left power, but he should be careful not to denigrate himself when it comes to the law,” he added.

ATTA AKYEA DON'T BOTHER YOURSELF WITH THESE PEOPLE BUT ALWAYS BE GUIDED BY DR. M. BAWUMIA STATEMENT THAT " THEY DON'T READ". AND WHEN THEY READ THEY DON'T UNDERSTAND TOO. THEIR BEST TRADEMARK IS "PROPAGANDA". AND YOU KNOW HOW PROPAGANDA DOES TO THE BRAIN; WEAK AND DEFICIENT IN KNOWLEDGE.
Joy you are right who is ata kyea who has never worn any case in court.Npp is going to get it tof
Why Ayariga, I think you don't want HE Akufo-Addo to concentrate on what Ghanaians have task him to do. Leave him alone. When your time comes again, you do what you want.
Having your education in a elite school does not necessarily make you a good professional. The mistake some Ghanaians make is that, just after their education in schools abroad, in the developed countries, they don't wait to have practical training in the those countries, but quickly run to Ghana. I want to tell them that it just academic knowledge they acquired. Nobody writes exams in court as a lawyer. So just schooling at Havard University does not mean anything.
Atta -Akyea please educate him for us. This half baked lawyers.
WHO IS ATTA AKYEA? THE COCOA ASE LAWYER WHO RUNS TO COURT EVERY NOW AND THEN AND GETS HIS CASE THROWN OUT?CAN HE EVER COMPARE HIMSELF TO THE HARVARD-TRAINED LAWYER AYARIGA?FOR SOMEBODY FROM A POOR HOME TO ATTEND HARVARD, SHOULD SOMEBODY TELL U THAT HE IS A GENIUS???
Mahama Ayariga eat a humble pie at the appointment committee when he quoted parts of Article 78 of the 1992 constitution in relation to the appointments of a minister and who qualify to be appointed.
Akufo-Addo's first steps impressive. But Akufo must do more. He unto whom much is given much is expected.
Mahama Ayariga has probably taken over the position of D. Anang on the NDC legal team who never won a single case in court. He should head to the Supreme Court for interpretation to see if he will improve on the record Anana Esq. NDC tweaaaa.
@Joe, Ayariga is a law graduate from Havard so what?Does that make him infallible?Take it or leave it, there is a huge variance between KNOWLEDGE and COMMON SENSE. And turning the lens on the Ken kuranchie's issue, i think u should be sorry for your commnent
