The Member of Parliament for Kumbungu in the Northern Region, Ras Mubarak, believes the reported plagiarized paragraphs in the inaugural speech of President Nana Akufo-Addo gives reason to doubt the competence of the backroom staff he appointed.
Persons like the former rector of GIMPA, Professor Stephen Adei, lauded President Akufo-Addo’s choice of backroom staff as being impressive, but in a Citi News interview, Mr. Mubarak, a first time MP, opined that President Akufo-Addo’s speech writers exhibited a lack of diligence.
“We were made to believe they had all the men, all the young people who were very competent. But they have demonstrated that, at least from what happened with the speech, they don’t have the men who can think on their feet and think outside the box.”
“They had a whole month to prepare the President’s inaugural speech… I am very surprised as to why they would want to take speeches from other leaders from across the world,” the opposition National Democratic Congress MP stated.
Background
Following the swearing-in of the President and his vice, quotes in President Akufo-Addo’s inaugural speech believed to have been lifted from speeches by two former American Presidents made rounds on social media.
The Director of Communications at the presidency, Eugene Arhin, subsequently apologised for the portions of President Akufo-Addo’s speech which did not acknowledge the sources of some of the quotes.
Some critics have described this as plagiarism but in a statement issued by Mr. Arhin, he said it was simply an oversight and not a deliberate act.
According to him, the President in his speech acknowledged every other source he had quoted. Mr. Arhin’s post read:
“My attention has been drawn to references being made to a statement in the speech delivered by the President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, at his swearing in on Saturday, January 7, 2017, which was not duly acknowledged.”

Hi Ras, do you mean to tell us you are always 100% original whenever you author a sentence? You build on what you have heard and read. Tradition goes on. So, let us not make a monument out of this.
Pls drop this , coz you are now an MP, think about how you can better the living standard your constituent, MASSA if you want to become popular this is not the best way, this is cheap popula\rity.pls lets see the difference between you and babies with sharp teeth,if continue thuis way, ur people will chase you with machete, as it happened during the electioneering campagn
You a ***barred word*** like you, what do you know?
Ras Mubarak think of your competence okay.
I even don't understand all these ***barred word***. Go to Silicon Valley, all the inventors build on what has already been invented before, yet they claim ownership of their work. We don't biycott the products they put on the market. We consume and even ask for more. What's the difference between Facebook, whatsap, imo etc? None! Let's stop this hypocrisy. Otherwise, nobody should talk and you ever talk, make sure you quote everyone who has said same or similar things thar you ever say, whether in private or public. Hypocrites. If you want to criticize, put out a constructive criticism and not these craps.
Npp guys over here, you see how it feels to be criticised. However I m appealing to young guys who are given opportunity to serve in the highest office to sit up and make a case for the youth. I m tired of retired and old people still wanting position in government.
THEY HAVE STARTED THEIR INSULTS AGAIN? THE NPP ALWAYS WANTS TO CRITISIZE BUT THEY DO NOT WANT TO BE DONE THE SAME. THE PRESS SECRETARY HAS COME TO APOLOGISE YET THIS TOO KNOWN PEOPLE LIKE RICHARD WILL INSULT. HE SHOULD GO AND STAND FOR AN MP IN HIS AREA AND SEE HOW MUCH VOTES HE WILL GET. HE SHOULD GET READY SINCE NANA HAS A LOT TO DO HE MUST RETUCE MY LIGHT BILL AND I DONT WANT HIM TO INCREASE FUEL OR ANYTHING IN THIS COUNTRY SCHOOL IS COMING TO REOPEN THERE SHOULD BE NO SCHOOL FEES, EVEN IN AMERICA PEOPLE ARE PAYING FOR EVERYTHING. WE WILL SE THINGS IN THE COMING DAYS.
I pity those people who voted for you to become their member of parliament. I believe there were more respectable citizens in that constituency but majority of the constituents had been blind-folded.
When did you come?
