The head of the Political Communications Department of the University of Cape Coast, Dr Eric Opoku Mensah, has heaped praises on the wife of New Patriotic Party (NPP) vice-presidential candidate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, for her role in the campaign of the party ahead of polls in December.
According to Dr Mensah, it would not be far-fetched to refer to Mrs Samira Bawumia as Ghana’s version of Michelle Obama, wife of the president of the United States of America.
Mrs Bawumia has been touring the country preaching the message of change to the electorate.
In his assessment of Mrs Bawumia’s role in the NPP campaign, Dr Mensah told Class News’ Naa Deedei Tettey on Thursday October 27 that she had developed into a great asset for the NPP and had the ability to make political gains for her party and its candidate, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
“So far as the NPP’s campaign is concerned, I think that she’s been quite articulate, and if you want to say Ghana’s version of Michelle Obama, you might be right to some extent. She has grown over the period. Her husband, Dr Bawumia, has grown tremendously in terms of his stature and he’s come along with wife Samira. I think she brings a lot of credibility to Nana Akufo-Addo’s ticket, particularly being a Muslim woman. I think that she has a great potential of connecting with the teeming masses, especially in the Zongos,” he stated.
“She has the potential of easily connecting with the ordinary people because they look up to her as one of their own. She comes from the north and secondly she is a Muslim, and I think that if she continues this way, she brings a lot of political capital to the NPP and I think it will only be to the advantage of the NPP.”
He continued: “This is something I haven’t seen on the other side, particularly in the NDC, and it adds a lot to the ticket of Nana Akufo-Addo. …She has age on her side, she is young, she is energetic, and this is the time she can do a lot more and I’m not surprised at what she is doing. …This is not a competition between her and Nana Akufo-Addo’s wife, but she is young and she has all the zeal and energy. When you look at the other side, sometimes, you will find the First Lady going on her own trips, but most at times what is visible to me is not more of her oratory [skills] but sharing [of] gifts, but Samira has really shown the difference by her ability to articulate clearly her message.”

I listened to the speech delivered by this lady just now, and I tell you folks, even if you hate this woman, accept the fact that she is a real orator! She speaks with sense and substance. She never insulted the President. Ndc in their trade-mark is just making it up in a failed attempt to undo her wonderful speech. Its rather unfortunate that ndc folks will talk of who is a Fulani. Do they really know the number of 'foreigners' in their party who are even holding higher positions in their party and in Ghana? They should check from their general secretary to deputy ministers, through to Board of Directors and Chief Executives. Ndc, please know yourselves.
She is the best.. NDC is shaking. More of those speeches are yet to come , hey not insult . God bless you young lady.
I cannot understand why some ediotic fulls tend to refer to this lady as 'Fulani' lady ; the lady was born in Ghana attended school in Ghana and is a Ghanaian ; as to the question of beauty ; to me it is a subjective choice for each person because beauty is in the eye of the beholder ; as to the issue of intelligence and education the evidence is there ; Michelle is a highly educated lady as compared to Samira but that does not mean Michelle is more intelligent than Samira because been educated does mean you are intelligent ; some people are highly educated but have poor intelligence besides the acquisition of paper qualifications does mean you execute a job in your field and as to this bankrupt idea of being a Fulani ; nobody chooses where they are born or which tribe they should belong to besides the fulanis as a people have being a nomadic tribe since the time of the old Ghana and Shongai empires when salt was traded for gold from the south to the north of Africa in the ancient days ; the Fulani tribe spread from Gambia to Central Africa; they are all human beings and are Ghanaians and Samira happens to be married to a Ghanaian Mr Bawumia even JJ Rawlings is accepted as a Ghanaian although nobody knows who is real father is because it has never being proven who his father ; his father could be a Labanese ; the worse part of is this nation wrecker Mrs Osei with a Nigerian ancestry who was appointed the EC of Ghana and about to set Ghana ablaze with his inexperience; arrogance and incompetence ; to me Ghana needs women who can stand up for the right of Ghanaians and in particular women ; we need ladies who can do the job and be able to provide good advice to their husbands not ladies who would rather prefer to encourage to still from Ghanaians and buy houses in Dubai and set up foundation of which nobody knows where they got their monies from besides they look the other way and encourage their husbands to running around ladies like paedophiles and womanisers .
Very well said.....DR.Mensah dun look too far.Even the likes of Mrs Mahama and Mrs Amissah Arthur can't be compared to Samira. She has proven that wen given the mantle she will be able to deliver.Unlike someone i kno who i avnt even seen or heard campaigning for the men they call husbands. For Samira i can rili say u av made Mfantsiman and Scotton House Proud. But for Mrs.Amissah Arthur i dont even kno wat u av done for Mfantsiman since u husband and his government came to power.Long Live MfANTSIMAN GIRLS ,LONG LIVE THE GREAT SCOTTON HOUSE....LONG LIVE THE NPP #NANA B3BA#
As a Ghanaian who remains neutral when it comes to Politics, for once, I think I side with Dr Eric Opoku Mensah when it comes to the sharp contrast between Mrs Samira Bawumia and the First Lady, Mrs Lordina Mahama in terms of their communication skills. Samira I would say is very professional when it comes to communication. If I should set the records straight, Mrs Samira Bawumia is a professionally trained communicator. As a trained TV BROADCASTER, she use to host a TV program on either Metro TV or one of the TV stations in Ghana. I remember her very well, because I use to admire her beauty and her pronunciations. Samira left the TV screen, I think when she got married, to attend to family duties. She's always been a very good communicator/speaker and nobody can take that away from her.
AH YESTERDAY, I SAW LORDINA MAHAMA ON UTV. HER TEETH IS VERY VERY BAD.HER ENGLISH IS LIKE DAY CARE PUPIL AND HER MOUTH TOO IS NYAMAAAA. WHY ? SO AFTER ALL THESE ***barred word*** OF STATE MONEY, MONKEY STILL NO FINE? HAHAAHAAA
This is comparison is beyond absurdity as they have decided to chose unfortunate placards to do comparison. We are all unique but to take the debate to your ***barred word*** thoughts MRS OBAMA IS AN ACCOMPLISHED LAWYER PAR EXCELLENCE SO TCOCOCOMPARISON IS BEYOND ABSURDITY.
LORDINA MAHAMA WAS FIRST CLASS ***barred word*** AT NKORANZA. SHE HAD SERIOUS GONO DURING HER PROSTITUTION AND WAS SENT TO BOLE FOR TREATMENT. THAT WAS WHERE SHE MET HER HUSBAND JONH MAHAMA. YOU CAN EVEN SEE FROM HOW LORDINA MAHAMA WALKS. IF YOU LIVE IN A GLASS HOUSE , DON'T THROW STONES
Please!!! why do you spend so much energy God has gifted you with to denigrate a fellow human being. Don't forget every idle word that comes from you will be brought to judgement on the last day. Lets learn to be tolerant and circumspect with our comments. We all need peace and it does come just by asking for it but through conscious effort on our part as dutiful citizens to work diligently for it. LONG LIVE GHANA!!!
NDC PEOPLE DON'T YOU KNOW THAT COLLINS DAUDA TOO IS A FULANI? WHAT ABOUT BABA JAMAL?
