A political science lecturer at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Dr Edward Brenya, has questioned Nana Akufo-Addo’s leadership qualities after the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flag bearer said the party would say ‘thank you’ to any member who decides to quit as a result of losing an internal election.
During the Greater Accra leg of his campaign tour, the NPP flag bearer said members who quit after losing internal polls were not true members.
"Our party selects leaders though internal elections. I, myself, was elected through such a process. True party people stay with the party whether they win or lose. My colleague Alan Kyerematen, who I beat in our primaries, is still here with me. He even speaks on my behalf. However, if you lose internal elections and you get disgruntled and decide to leave the party, then you are not a true NPP member. So, if you say you are quitting the party because you lost an election, we will say: 'Thank you very much for your services, you go, we will stay and fight the fight and make the way to bring the victory to the NPP.' We don't give up, we don't fret, come what may, we are solidly behind the Elephant," the three-time flag bearer told party members at a rally at Shiabu, Dansoman, in the Ablekuma West constituency on Tuesday, 4 October.
But speaking to Class News, Dr Brenya said this kind of posturing raises more questions about the kind of leadership Nana Akufo-Addo will offer Ghanaians once elected as president.
"He is already being questioned that he is not the type that can unify people. I don't think that whatever has happened with Afoko, Kwabena Agyapong and others should have happened if Nana Akufo-Addo, right from the beginning, had actually exercised a level of [commitment] to unify people. He would have been able to handle it. NPP is not the first party to have seen these kinds of things that emerged but what have we seen? ...Other people were sacked in constituencies and it is going on and on. Now we have people that are going independent and the only thing you can tell them is 'thank you because you are not patriotic'? What kind of leadership is that? ... He needs to look at the human side of issues and remember that winning elections is about numbers and you do everything that it takes to get the numbers to support you," he stated.

Mr. Lecturer, which part of what Nana said did you find wrong. you dont have to comment if you have nothing saying. you call yourself a lecturer without doing any proper analysis. what kind of country is this.
Who determines who should be a President in the countr?, Even a Sick, Empty h@ad, Incompetent, Thi@f like NDC John Mahama is asking us to give him 4 more yrs power again. People meant not know how much effect and begging this man and his party Npp have tried to convinced those going Independence, So people like this Lactuer should give us a big brake .
Whatever you do you cannot please everybody . It may not even be the right to try to please everyone. A true leader takes decisions that are in the interest of the people he leads .Even if they may appear to be tough decisions . When attempts at reconciliation fail , the recalcitrant must be allowed to go .That's life!
Please ask the so called and too known "lecturer" Did Nana plagiarize his speech..??
All sorts of people are parading themselves as Lecturers these days. People are taking two days to get PhDs today and then they jump into the current cheap lecturer bandwagon giving them the ordersity to make political comments. Look at this one who cannot even read and understand Nana's thank you comment before passing judgement that it is bad. God save Ghana. You mean Nana should not than people who have served NPP and now want to bow out? Do they not have the right so to do? Do you want Nana to chain them to NPP? Even your own son will leave your house when he comes of age. NANA IS SPOT ON, PLEASE. PLEASE LEARN TO THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX! you hold a PhD if really!
You people refuse to accept fact that Nana is not qualify to be a president. Shame unto you NPP your leader lack basic qualities to lead.
There's no way Nana or for that matter NPP should pamper non loyal party members for it's better to loose election with loyal and sincere patriotic members that to win with sycophants and selfish members. Ghanaians know they need change and that change is NPP, this election is not for Nana Addo along but for the entire country to come out for this untold hardship ndc has brought thro dumsor, corruption and incompetence. Nana Addo has got his money already through his sweat and he's among the 10 richest in Ghana. Ghanaians ARISE 4 CHANGE SO GHANA CAN WORK AGAIN
Being a lecturer doesnt make you suprior of knowing everything so am not suprise about the coment from this lecturer what Nana said for me is right nothing wrong about it, you loos an election and you decide to quite the party and you want somebody to come and beg you, joining a party is a choice, if you leave today another person will join today....
THINGS FALL APART,THE CENTER HAS COLLAPSED!!! JDM ALL THE WAY!!
Which politician in Ghana and for that matter Africa can unite a faction which has a personal interest.Even the Great Osagyefo Kwame could not unite with his own party UP party.Nana Akufo-Addo is right to make that statement. Why would one take an entrenched position when he/she loses an internal election?Assuming Nana had spent all his time reconciling those independent parliamentary candidates where would he get time to carry out his national campaign?Just look at the time party elders spent inn trying to reconcile even Paul Afoko,Kwabena Agyapong & party executives yet was not fruitful.Ghanaians & Africans cannot handle defeat which is affecting their understanding of democracy.NDC which seems to be united are doing so bcos of a common agenda of getting power to loot state resources, internally they are not united lets wait for them when they go into opposition.
