Former President Jerry John Rawlings left many National Democratic Congress (NDC) supporters laughing at the Cape Coast stadium when he revealed that First Lady Lordina Mahama urged him not to “boom” when delivering his speech.
“While the cameras were off us, the First Lady moved closer and said she hopes I will not make boom speeches today. I laughed and asked her if that was her reason for sitting close to me”, he said.
The former president has a reputation for giving what has been described as “boom” speeches, something that began during his days as a revolutionary.
Continuing with his speech, he admonished NDC supporters not to underestimate the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) ahead of the December polls.
That, Mr Rawlings said, was necessary to ensure that the NDC did not lose the election.
