The Member of Parliament for Okere and former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party, Dan Botwe has dismissed suggestions that the party is in serious crisis.

His comments come after Member of Parliament for Assin Central Kennedy Agyapong described the current executives of the party as "corrupt and a bunch of failures".

He further promised to allocate 20 million US dollars to campaign against them not to win power. Mr Agyapong has also threatened to resign from the party if he is hurled before the disciplinary committee.

The General Secretary of the party, Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie in a response described Mr. Agyapong as a joke and urged party faithfuls to ignore him.

Minority Chief Whip Fred Opare-Ansah is also sparring with his party’s national Chairman Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey over modalities for holding their national elections in March.

In a tersely worded statement addressed to Mr. Obetsebi-Lamptey, the Suhum Legislator accused the Chairman of seeking to circumnavigate the party’s proper and constitutional provisions regarding the elections.

But speaking in an interview with XYZ News, Mr. Dan Botwe said it is laughable for people to suggest that the party is in crisis due to the current bickering.

"A very strong vibrant party like this; we are the largest political party in Ghana…we are the pacesetters of multiparty democracy in this country. Just recently we had polling station elections, 26,000 and that is the bedrock of the political organization".

“130,000 political party executives have been elected, 5,000 electoral area coordinators have been elected, constituency executives in 235 constituencies have been elected and just about a week ago we successfully elected 10 regional executives and this party is in crisis?. Because just one person feels that he does not like a particular person becoming a national chairman because they have problems and it is a crisis? Mr. Botwe queried”.

The former general secretary of the NPP added that the party’s decision to decentralize its forthcoming national elections is not a bad thing.
