The Committee for Joint Action (CJA), a pressure group has asked the Mahama’s administration to set up a Financial Tribunal to deal with cases on corruption expeditiously.

It said the absence of the tribunal reduced the work of the public accounts committee of parliament to a mere circus.

Mr Kwasi Pratt Jnr, Managing Editor of the Insight Newspaper, addressing journalists on behalf of the CJA convener on Thursday said government ought to demonstrate seriousness in alleviating hardships of Ghanaians.

The CJA expressed shocked that since 1992, no serious effort had been made to establish the financial tribunal as envisioned in the constitution to deal expressly with cases of embezzlement and misapplication of public funds.

Mr Pratt said several years down the lane chunk of the working people earn less than GH₵200.00 a month and with limited access to social services.

“The national housing deficit is still over a million…there are still hundreds of schools under trees, school fees are high, and the auditor-general’s report continues to reveal massive corruption.”

Mr Pratt observed that the refusal of successive governments and relevant institutions to set up the tribunal “speak volumes about the official commitment to the fight against corruption.”

He said the CJA would not compromise its stance on the issue and urged political parties and civil society organisations to join the committee in mounting pressure for the establishment of the Financial Tribunal.
