Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Okaikoi South, Nana Akomea says the first year of the Mahama-led administration is nothing to write home about.

According to him, Mahamas first year was characterized by unbridled hardship and institutionalized corruption.

Nana Akomea was assessing the performance of president John Mahama's first year in office on Asempa FMs Ekosii Sen programme Tuesday.

As part of activities to mark his first year in office, the president interacted journalists at the Flagstaff House answering questions which has dominated public discourse.

Speaking on the theme one year of responsible, transparent and accountable governance, President Mahama among other things promised to step-up the fight against corruption in the country.

Though a lot of people have commended the president for the initiative, others believe he was evasive in answering most of the questions on corruption posed to him by the journalists.

Nana Akomea, who couldnt agree more with the view that Mahama evaded the corruption question, expressed skepticism about the Presidents ability to nip the corruption canker in the bud.

He said if government has defied Supreme Court orders to retrieve monies wrongfully paid to people as judgement debts; how do they expect us to believe them. The commitment to fighting corruption is not there he stressed.

The former Okaikoi South MP attributed the ailing economy, falling standards of education and graduate unemployment to what he says is the fiscal indiscipline of government.

He described as worrying how Ghanaians have been subjected to abject poverty after voting the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) into office for a better Ghana.

Nana Akomea said if President Mahamas knowledge of the problems confronting Ghanaians can be translated to how the issues are address, half of the problems facing Ghanaians would be solved.
