The Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Right Rev. Prof. Emmanuel Martey, says corruption is deepening in Ghana because the awesome powers conferred on the executive are not being used wisely.

He says given the plethora of reports of corruption in the last few years, some persons should have been prosecuted.

You hear corruption all over but because the powers invested in the executive are not used properly and wisely for the benefit of this nation, corruption will strive. By now leaders ought to have taken decisions on GYEEDA, on SADAtell me who has been prosecuted!

Prof. Martey was speaking to co-host of Joy FMs Super Morning Show, Francis Abban.

He said it was time the countrys leaders woke up from their slumber and enforced the laws governing the nation.

We gave them the political authority to govern and they must govern, he stressed.

The Moderator maintained that laws are made to be enforced and law without enforcement is impotence and we are reaping the fruits of impotence.

Prof. Martey said he had spoken to President John Mahama about the urgent need to confront the canker of corruption.

He however declined from going into detail on his discussions with the president except to say that the President assured him that he will do something about it.

According to Rev. Prof. Martey 2013 had exposed many of the ills of the society; Ghana has conceived corruption; that Ghana has become pregnant with corruption and that Ghana has given birth to corruption.

He said wise leadership ought to take this diagnosis and selflessly and painstakingly work on them.

The outspoken critic said several attempts had been made to corrupt and co-opt him "but they will not get me in the name of Jesus."

In his view, the Church should play the role of a civil society organisation and hold the decision makers accountable.

He, however, conceded that some religious leaders had been cowered by insults.

"Some of them cannot withstand the insults; in fact Ghanaians insult; Ghanaians can insult and if you have not been prepared for that, you cannot withstand it. May be there are some (religious leaders too) who have been muscled in but I cannot be muscled in," he stated.
