The National Security Adviser, Brigadier General Joseph Nunoo-Mensah (Rtd) has vowed never to quit his post despite growing calls for his head in the wake of his strong suggestion that striking workers were unpatriotic and could leave Ghana if they desired.
Brig. Nunoo Mensah, speaking over the weekend, challenged those complaining about the economic hardships, culminating in a number of strikes, to stop complaining and leave the country if they so desired.
οΏ½Every Tom, Dick and Harry gets up and is calling for a strike. If you donοΏ½t want the job Ghana is not a police state, take your passport and get out of this country. If you canοΏ½t sacrifice like what some of us have donοΏ½t then get out. If the kitchen is too hot for you, get outοΏ½.
This call has since generated a firestorm of reproach, as well as calls from a wide section of society and political parties for the president to sack him.
However, the former Chief of Defence Staff insists he is going nowhere. Speaking on Adom FMοΏ½s Dwaso Nsem morning of Tuesday October 22, 2013, Gen Nunoo Mensah declared:
οΏ½I will never resign. Why should I resign? Why do you think I should resign? If IοΏ½m speaking the truth, why should I resign? If you are a doctor and you are on strike and I say you can leave, why should I resign?
οΏ½No one should be allowed to destroy Ghana. My wife thinks IοΏ½m even crazy, with all the money IοΏ½m spending in building schools and all.
οΏ½The time has come to save this nation. This country is dying. Those of us who have been around for a long time can see that, that is why IοΏ½ve launched a moral crusade.
οΏ½I will never resign.οΏ½
