The two main political parties, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have been reacting to the release of the national population and housing census figures by the Ghana Statistical Service.
The Statistical Service released the final figures of the 2010 Census on Thursday after several postponements. Ghanas population currently stands at 24, 658,823. That is according to the results of the 2010 Population census released by the Ghana Statistical Service.
The NPP however says though it has reservations about the service, it is heartwarming to see the figures finally released.
Yaw Buaben Asamoah, Deputy Communications Director of the NPP said he was expecting to hear a bit about the challenges that the service faced.
Many people rely on it - academics, and everybody, political parties the whole nation - to determine how to plan. We will study the figures and we will study how things go.
The NDC however says the Census figures will enable political parties to plan based on accurate figures. Richard Quashigah, Propaganda Secretary of the NDC, told XYZ News in an interview that it is refreshing that all parties now have a fair idea of the true population of the nation, based on which they can all strategise going forward.
He was in good company with his NPP counterpart saying, we all would look at the figures to really digest it and understand the dynamics so that when we are speaking to issues, we know we are speaking with authentic and factual figures as relates to the population of this country.
