Mr Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, has promised thorough investigation into allegations of corruption leveled against some Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs).
They would not sweep under the carpet any claim of financial malfeasance and abuse of office made by assembly members, he said.
He said his Ministry continued to be inundated with petitions from a number of the assemblies about the conduct of their chief executives. Mr Ofosu-Ampofo was speaking to newsman in Kumasi on recent agitation and threats to pass a vote of no confidence by some assembly members, particularly in the Ashanti Region's chief executives.
The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), Atwima-Kwanwoma, Afigya-Kwabre and Bosome-Freho are among the list of assemblies where DCEs face impeachment threats. Mr Ofosu-Ampofo, however, expressed worry about the rate at which some assembly members appeared to be abusing the Standing Orders with reference to the use of the no confidence vote.
He said the situation, where some few members, who could not form the two-thirds majority, required for removal of the DCE were abusing the Standing Orders, would not be accepted.
