'Volta Chiefs Have No Reason To Be Angry With President Mills'

Officials of the Volta Regional Coordinating Council have said chiefs in the region have no reason to be angry at President Mills for their inability to meet with him.

According to the Council, it did not communicate any set date to the Volta Regional House of Chiefs on when the President was visiting the region so they do not see why they should vent their anger on the President.

The Council’s response comes in the wake of Daily Guide reports that Volta Regional chiefs were angry at President Mills for not honouring several scheduled visits to the region.

According to the chiefs, every time news of such visits was communicated to them, they left everything they were doing to attend but the President never show up.

The Registrar of the Volta Regional House of chiefs, Clement Kojo Tse said the chiefs had serious misgivings about the postponements especially the last one recently.

Speaking to Frimpong Manso Adakabre on Dwaso Nsem on Adom FM Friday, Clement Tse said that the chiefs were asked to prepare for the President’s two-day visit to the Region on Tuesday, July 26.

However, they later got to know that the visit had been postponed indefinitely without receiving any official communication from the Regional Coordinating Council.

Mr. Tse disclosed that he rather visited the offices of the Council and that was when he found out that the trip had been rescheduled, a situation he said did not go down well with the chiefs who did not mince their words when they met with the President on his visit to the Region this week to assess the extent of damage caused by recent floods.

The chiefs condemned the president’s protocol, political heads in the region and the Volta Regional Coordinating Council for disrespecting and disregarding their sovereignty and authority as traditional leaders.

The paramount chief of Avatime, Osie Adza Tekpor is reported to have said that although the chiefs in the region were ill-treated by some politicians, some of his colleagues should be blamed for that because some of them had made themselves ‘yes men’ of politicians.

Togbe Tepro Hodo, Fiaga of Anfoega Traditional Area also said enough is enough and demanded that disrespectful acts against the chiefs should be stopped.

The president of the Regional House of chiefs, the Agbogbomefia of the Asogli state, Togbe Afede also commended his colleagues for making such bold statements about their frustrations.

Mr. Tse said such things had happened countless times and that the last time it happened, the Regional Coordinating Council rendered an apology to the chiefs that the incident would not be repeated and that is why they were furious about the recent occurrence.

Mr. Tse said postponements and conflicting information about President Mills’ visits had disrupted their activities and even affected the schedule of their meetings because some of them came from places far outside the region so could not be inconvenienced unnecessarily.
