A member of the communication team of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and an Oil Analyst, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has described the Listening Campaign being embarked on by flagbearer of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as stage-managed and choreographed.
According to him, the NPP is only trying its hardest to portray Nana Akufo-Addo as a humble and a down-to-earth person, ostensibly to erase the widely held perception about the NPP flagbearer being haughty.
The 2012 NPP Presidential Candidate began his nationwide Listening Campaign on July 4, 2011. The Listening Campaign, according to the NPP, will give their candidate the opportunity to listen at first hand to the concerns and suggestions of the citizenry to help him formulate the appropriate policies and programmes to address such concerns.
But in Felix Ofosus estimation, the Listening Campaign" is a clear indication that the NPP flagbearer lacks adequate knowledge about governance, adding that it is unconceivable for one who claims to be an agitator for the poor not to know the problems facing the masses.
The NDC does not care what kind of campaign strategy the NPP embarks onbesides, Nana Addo is not really listening to anything; it is just a normal campaign tour. Nana Addo has been in politics for several decades, so has he now realized that he has to listen to Ghanaians to get to know what they are going through? This indicates that he doesnt have adequate knowledge about governance. Because I cannot imagine that someone who has agitated for rights of the poor for so many years does not even have a fair idea of the problems confronting Ghanaians.
Nana Addo is just finding ways to show that he is humblethat is why he joined people to eat and drink sachet waterbut that is their own cup of tea because it is his right to campaign anyhow. However, the inadequacy about it is the deliberate stage managed and choreographed manner he is doing it, he added.
Contributing to discussions on PeaceFMs flagship programme, Kokrokoo, Felix Ofosu was of the view that political gimmicks like what the NPP flagbearer is doing, will fail to convince people to vote for you.
pretending to be something you are not does not enhance ones image as a politician, it rather irritates people, he added.
