'Majority Leader' and Member of Parliament for Effutu constituecy has apologised to Multimedia Group for his outburst following the declaration of four seats vacant during a Parliamentary session on Thursday, October 17, 2024.
Parliament was thrown into a state of an unforgettable dramatic experience when the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, ruled that the seats of four members of parliament who have decided to run as independent candidates in the upcoming December 7 general elections, are vacant in accordance to Article 97 (g) of the constitution.
The Speaker's ruling, in effect, makes the NDC, who were the minority, now the majority, while the NPP, who were the majority in parliament, now the minority in parliament.
Speaking on Peace FM's 'Kokrokoo' morning show, Afenyo-Markin maintains that, the Speaker of parliament never referred to the NDC caucus as 'majority' neither did he refer to the NPP leadership as 'minority', hence, it will be out of place for anyone to refer to the NPP as a minority caucus.
Speaking further, he stated that, Journalists from Joynews were championing the course by referring to the NPP as the minority caucus when the Supreme Court was yet to determine the validity of the speaker’s ruling.
Nonetheless, Afenyo-Markin Esq. acknowledged that he overacted with his conduct during an engagement with journalists from Multimedia.
"Where we get a bit wrong, we have to admit it. And I would say this; I lost it and I apologise. Sometimes, in the heat of the moment, you can make mistakes. They are my people but sometimes they engage in a certain propaganda and mischief that affects my person. However, I feel I should have acted better. I will have an engagement with them and duly apologise to them," he said.
