Tamale Metro office of the Electoral Commission (EC) has upheld an application filed by the Tamale central constituency NPP leadership which challenged the eligibility of 21 people whose names were captured on the recently compiled limited voters register.

During the exercise in the Tamale Metro Area, vigilant NPP polling agents at their various registration centres filled the EC’s challenged forms in protest against the residential addresses and ages of 21 people.

As required by law, the Tamale Metro EC set up an investigative committee to investigate the NPP claims.

Both the challengers and the challenged were officially invited to meet with the EC’s investigative body on Tuesday August 26, 2014.

The challengers led by the Tamale central constituency NPP Secretary, Musah Mutawakil, honoured the invitation but 20 of the challenged ignored the EC’s invitation.

Only one of the challenged appeared before the EC’s investigative committee and proved his case right.

After the committee’s sitting, Tamale Metro EC Director, Andani Naatogmah Issah explained to Citi Newsthat all those who downplayed the invitation will have their names deleted on the limited voters register.

He commended the NPP polling agents for their vigilance during the exercise.

Andani Naatogmah Issah implored the other political parties to take a centre stage in the EC’s operations.
The Tamale central constituency NPP Secretary, Musah Mutawakil described the EC’s decision as a victory for Ghana’s democracy.

He said but for the timely intervention of the party’s polling agents, the suspected names would have been smuggled into the limited voters register.

Musah Mutawakil reiterated the NPP’s desire to collaborate with the EC to make the 2016 general elections free, fair and credible.
