Nana Akomea, Chief Executive Officer of the State Transport Corporation (STC), says there should be installation of alarms in long-journey transport buses to curb road accidents in the country.
Speaking on Peace FM's 'Kokrokoo' progrsmme, Nana Akomea noted that most of the mistakes that happen on the roads with drivers is caused by fatigue and sleep.
He expounded that driving for hours exerts stress on drivers but instead of they taking intermittent breaks to revive their bodies, they rather continue the journey which, when care is not taken, leads to road accidents.
Nana Akomea also explained that, as a rule, every long-journey transport bus must have more than a driver so that when one is tired, the other takes over the driving and this encourages safe journey.
The other solution to the problem, he offered, is installing alarms in the buses to awaken any driver who loses consciousness on the road or overspeeds.
"Install alarm in the bus, so that if the driver goes more than 100 or 110, the alarm will sound heavily to the hearing of the driver to be watchful. It will help to reduce the overspeeding," he proffered.
