Residents of Behanase in the Bekwai Municipality of the Ashanti Region on Monday went bonkers and assaulted a police officer on duty.
According to Superintendent Ebenezer Dinsing, Bekwai District Police Commander, the youth tied up the police officer to a tree and subjected him to severe beatings for arresting one of their own.
The police officer, David Olanuyi was disarmed and caged after the beatings.
According to them, until their colleague is set free, the police officer will not be released.
Supt Dinsing, however, stated that the police officer has been rescued and on admission at the hospital.
Meanwhile, four of the culprits have been arrested including two women.
