Some aggrieved customers of Menzgold Ghana Limited on Tuesday defied Police orders to stage a demonstration in the Ashanti Region capital, Kumasi today [Tuesday].
The customers, who have blocked access to Adum from Amakom, say their demonstration is to impress upon the company to pay them their locked monies.
They are also calling on government to intervene in the matter and assist in recovering their investments.
Police order
The Police on Monday warned the aggrieved customers to call off the demonstration since they did not follow due process as spelt out in the Public Order Act.
According to a statement signed by the Public Affairs Officer of the Ashanti Regional Police Command, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Godwin Ahianyo, an invitation to the group to make an arrangement for a new date to be fixed for the demonstration was turned down.
“The leaders of the Intended demonstrators" turned down the invitation extended to them by the Police Command and insisted on embarking on the demonstration. As such, they are being warned to rescind their decision since embarking on such demonstration will be deemed illegal. Therefore, whoever takes part in the demonstration will be dealt with according to law.”
Nana Addo and Otumfuo to be petitioned
Meanwhile, the spokesperson of the aggrieved customers, Francis Owusu, in an interview on Accra-based Citi FM, said the group would petition President Akufo-Addo and Otumfuo Osei Tutu II on the matter.
“It is going to be one of the mega protests that has even happened in this country because all the Menzgold customers across the country will be coming to Kumasi to protest against the insensitivity of our president towards our plight. We have petitioned Otumfuo Osei Tutu II on this issue and we have been to his office for about three times so we are going to send a letter of reminder to Otumfuo’s office,” he said.

Menzgold is dirty ***barred word*** issue ,know well vested financial people in Ghana,USA,UK who invested in it ,but with o am not a financial or economic person but the small sense my dad gave me . A friend seeked my opinion and I told him it was too risky since it was way above t-bills 7-10% a month and if he had loose money that loosing it will not affect him he can do that .I have not had the courage to ask him wether he invested in it.
TAKES NOTICE. !!! TO WHOM IT CONCERN. MENZGOLD CUSTOMER'S, EVEN IF WE ARE 20 IN NUMBER, WE SHALL SURELY VOTE AGAINST NPP PARTY. THERE IS NO DOUBT ABOUT THIS ONE. THE SILENCE, UNPROFESSIONAL, AND THE INSENSIBILITY OF GOVERNMENT CAN NOT BE UNDERSTOOD. IF NANA APPIAH MENSAH, THE CEO OF MENZGOLD HAS BROKEN THE LAW DEAL WITH HIM IN PERSON. WHY IS THE GOVERNMENT SILENT ON HOW CUSTOMERS CAN RETRIEVE THEIR INVESTMENT? WE THE CUSTOMERS OF MENZGOLD WILL VOTE AGAINST NPP IN THE NEXT ELECTION.
The total number of Menzgold clients being churned out in the media baffles me. The initial unverified figure in the media was 1 million. It has now "surged" to 1.8 million clients.I think these figures are political figures intended to court public sentiments or induce political pressure. Why am I saying this? If you are an illegal firm like Menzgold and you are threatened with closure of your business, the only way to fight authorities politically is to inflate the actual number of your clients in order to turn it into a social issue. We all know NDC lost the elections by about a million votes so why not claim to have that number as clients, who could topple the current government by voting against it.That was the strategy of NAM1 and his cohorts. Now he has absconded, and there is no way the clients can recover their money. The clients' spokepersons have increased that 1 million figure to 1.8 million to put pressure on govt to help them recover their money. But in actual fact Menzgold clients would not be up to 500,000. For example if you have at least 500,000 clients and about 80% would want to remain anonymous for one reason or the other, then it should be easy to mass up between 30,000 to 80,000 people for demonstrations across the country, not the few hundreds we see demonstrating. I can bet that the total number of Menzgold clients are around 100,000 to 150,000. if the ndc is comforting itself with a windfall of votes from Menzgold clients in 2020, then they are dreaming. Just the same way that they dreamt Voltarians would vote massively against the creation of Oti Region.
Peition for what?? The high interest paid to you is as a result of risk of investment. So please keep quite and gnash your teeth in silence. Next time you will not invest anyhow!! Gr#eady b#a#s#tards.
