There was disorder at a traffic intersection at Tesano in Accra last Tuesday morning, when hawkers and pedestrians scrambled for cedi notes totalling GH¢14,300 which got strewn on the road after two suspected armed robbers who snatched the cash from a man, made a fruitless attempt to escape with it.
Tens of people pushed each other in a bid to have a share of the scattered notes, and when the police arrived, only GH¢ 7,200 was retrieved.
Briefing the Daily Graphic yesterday, the Public Relations Officer of the Accra Regional Police Command, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Mrs Afia Tenge, said the incident happened at about 11a.m.
Trailing
She said the victim, whose name was withheld, was standing at the Tesano bus stop with the money in an envelope but unknown to him two suspected robbers, both Nigerians, who were later identified as Edurance Duro, 28, and his accomplice, Chimedia Bright, were monitoring him.
Later, when the victim stopped a taxi and boarded it, Duro and Bright trailed him with a motorbike.
Mrs Tenge said the taxi stopped when the lights at a traffic intersection turned red. Duro, who was the pillion rider allegedly pounced on the victim and snatched the envelope containing the money and attempted to speed off.
Another taxi driver who saw what was going on, knocked down the two suspected robbers on the motorbike and in the process, the envelope fell and the money scattered on the road.
Unfortunately, hawkers and other road users, including commercial vehicle drivers, shop keepers and pedestrians, instead of helping the victim to gather the scattered notes, rather scrambled for the money, which was in various denominations.
Caution
The stunned victim raised an alarm leading to the arrest of Duro, while Bright, who was the rider, managed to escape.
But for the timely arrival of the Tesano police who were close by, Duro would have been lynched by a mob.
Duro was injured and taken to the Police Hospital but has since been treated and discharged.
Mrs Tenge said he had been placed in police custody while investigations continued.
She warned the public against taking advantage of crime scenes to loot instead of assisting victims and served notice that, "such persons, when arrested, would be prosecuted for stealing."

treated and discharged to who? the police or who?
Do ghana immigration have the biometric of this foreigners esp Nigerians.Everything criminal involve in Ghana today involve a Nigerians
What is the difference between the public who were scrambling for the scattered money and the robbers? Both parties actions will deny the victim of his hard earned money.
So these are the people their home country nationals are not ashamed of but telling the world Ghanaians should stop harassing them and leave them alone because, Ghana is a no man's land so any ECOWAS national who enters illegally is a Ghanaian who must enjoy like indigenous Ghanaians. Somebody tell Nigerians in our country we are a sovereign nation with laws and we have every right to let them go back home because of their disgraceful and disgusting characters! Nigeria nationals are not acceptable in any nation because of their kriminal actions. Supposing Ghanaians in Nigeria are behaving in such disgusting and shameful manners ,would Nigerians be happy with that? won't they Nigerians stand up against them and even enter where they reside to kill them? why are Ghanaians leaving them instead of lynching them and rather rashing for the money belonging to a Ghanaian? that st*pidity must stop, that's why these kriminals have got grounds because you rent your houses to them for big bucks without cross checking their back grounds. After prosecution they must be deported back home. Nigerians in Ghana are the major threat to the nation. The government must bring back the Border Guards to secure our borders, in every country ,there are border guards and because of political expediency JJ Rawlings scraped it off to allow his cousins in Togo who were being intimidated by the Eyadema and his people to enter our country in freedom. Rawlings has done our nation more harm than good ! these border guards who were soldiers made it impossible for foreigners to enter Ghana through unapproved areas, they had their tents built even in areas nobody would ever think they could be there. They had their tank and motor bikes around to chase people even smugglers ! We need to go back to establish the Border Guards to even create jobs for the youth.
these nigerians, hmmmm. prostitutes and armed robbers!
Look at his face, such people are not fit to be in society, the police should have allowed the people around to deal with him, fire burn him.
