The workers of the ongoing Kwame Nkrumah Interchange project are currently on strike over poor conditions of service and discrimination on the part of their employers.
The 74.88 million Euro project which is being jointly financed by the Government of Ghana and the Government of Brazil is about 80 percent complete and is expected to ease the traffic situation around Circle when completed.
After speaking to a few of the workers, PEACE FM correspondent, Naana Ntiri gathered that the workers who were employed by HR recruitment agency do not enjoy any benefit.
According to the workers, those who were directly employed by the Brazilian firm; M/S Queiroz Galvao Constucao (the firm in charge of the project) enjoy a lot of benefits including health allowance. However, when they (aggrieved workers) are sacked, they are not given anything neither are they entitled to any health allowance.
They are therefore calling on the Brazilian firm to immediately terminate the appointment of the agency or ensure that they are given the same benefits as their colleagues.
The workers, who had tied red bands around their necks and wrists, insist that they will not go back to work until the issue is resolved.
