REPORTS reaching Citi News indicate a rapid increase in incidences of fuel smuggling in the Zabzugu-Tatale District in the Northern Region.
According to sources, the illegal smuggling of refined fuel from Tatale across the countrys border is a lucrative business for many individuals who engage in it.
Further investigations have revealed that foreigners from the border towns of Togo engage in this illegal act of fuel smuggling, leading to a shortage of fuel in the area.
One of the residents who spoke to Citi News on condition of anonymity said as a result of the shortage in fuel, inhabitants in the district are subsequently experiencing difficulties in transportation.
He complained that authorities (customs, police and immigration) at the various borders have failed to arrest smugglers who, according to him, come in with cars and gallons whenever there is fuel.
He added that residents at Zabzugu-Tatale are frustrated and worried because their means of transportation have been hampered as cars and motors cant move, adding that businesses have been affected too.
