An order emanating from the Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) to the various metropolitan, municipal and district assemblies in the region to ensure that they do not spend any money on hampers and gifts this yuletide is causing great anger and anguish.
This is because the order is being interpreted to mean that the assemblies cannot buy gifts such as rice and oil for their workers who are departing for Christmas.
Speaking to the Daily Searchlight newspaper soon after receiving a wireless message, a senior official at the Adenta Municipal Assembly said that they were taken by surprise when they were informed that no rice and oil would be shared this yuletide.
They said that because of the Presidents order they are not going to share the rice and oil this year and we are not happy,.
President John Dramani Mahama recently issued an order to all Ministries, Departments and Agencies to desist from giving out hampers at Christmas, but according to the workers they had assumed that it would not affect the rice and oil that the system traditionally provides for workers at the end of the year.
"We heard that ministries organized parties for workers and gave out gifts. Why are we being discriminated against at the assemblies? they wondered.
