A suspected armed robber who was terrorizing workers of the AngloGold Ashanti Goldmine has been shot dead in Obuasi.
The deceased known as Osman, was shot by a security man of AngloGold Ashanti, for allegedly stealing from an underground goldmine.
The Obuasi Divisional Police, ACP Kofi Gyamfuor Berchie, who spoke to Citi News said the deceased was shot in the compound of the Ashanti Goldmine near the VRA substation.
�Two men stole some underground cables but when they were about to run away, the security guard aat the mine saw them and alerted the armed security man in the compound, who happens to be an army personnel."
He further narrated that "when he [security man] confronted him [the deceased], in a bid to take the stolen cable from him, it resulted in a struggle and he [security man] had some injuries. The deceased was gunned down as he tried running away.�
The other armed robber however escaped but the body of the deceased has been deposited at the Obuasi Government Hospital.
