The Agribusiness and Trade Promotion (ATP) project has presented its findings and recommendations on trade policy barriers in the sub-region to the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Commission in Abuja, Nigeria.
ATP undertook a study to determine the gap between the free trade provisions of ECOWAS and the policy-related constraints that were faced on a daily basis by traders and transporters of livestock, cereals and onions within the region. As a solution to the numerous national trade impediments, countries in the region created ECOWAS, an economic community that mandates governments to manage national economies through common policies, a statement by ATP noted.
Both parties discussed proposals, which were aimed at establishing trade policy priorities to guide ATPs collaboration with ECOWAS.
