Criminals have adopted a new method robbing people who go to the banks to transact business, says a police press release by the Public Affairs Directorate.
The perpetrators, according to the release signed by DSP Kwesi Ofori, Director of the Directorate, dress like staff of the banks and pretend to assist customers to go through the requisite processes in the banking hall, including filling of forms, counting of money and receiving of deposit. In doing this, they hoodwink customers to hand their money to them with pretext of depositing it in their accounts for them, and run away through special exist. Such criminals, the release said, invariably introduce themselves to inquisitive staff and other officials of the banks as newly-recruited staff.
The release therefore asked the general public and managers of financial institutions to be wary of such characters within the banking premises.
