The Ministry of Railways Development, in conjunction with its agencies, the Ghana Railway Development Authority and the Ghana Railway Company Ltd, together with officials and engineers from Pesa Bydgoszcz SA, the Polish manufacturer of the Diesel Multiple Unit (DMU) 001, wishes to inform the General Public of an incident that occurred today during the Site Acceptance Test (SAT) of the new DMU on the Tema-Mpakadan railway line.
At approximately 12:10 pm on Thursday, 18th April 2024, while conducting the test, an incident took place around Km 76+100. The DMU, upon approaching the curve at Km76+100, encountered a stationary vehicle stationed right across the rail track. Despite the immediate application of the emergency braking system, the train was unable to come to a complete stop before colliding with the vehicle.
It is important to note that the vehicle was unmanned, and the location where it was found is not designated as an authorized level crossing.
Thankfully, there were no injuries sustained by passengers on the train or bystanders. However, there was minor damage to the driver’s cab section of the train.
The incident has been promptly reported to the Police, and investigations are currently underway to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The DMU involved has been moved to the Workshop for further assessment and necessary repairs.
We assure the public that safety remains our utmost priority, and we are committed to ensuring the continued safe operation of our railway systems.
We urge all stakeholders to remain vigilant and adhere to safety protocols when operating or crossing railway tracks.
We will provide further updates as the investigation progresses.
Signed,
Ministry of Railway Development
Ghana

Hi, you have a broken links, it will be fixed only if you can links to my link? afrocablenews.com
Afia and Ernest, how did you come to the conclusion that the track was checked? You are just speculating and do not know the facts. The driver who packed the vehicle there is the one to blame. Is rail track a road? Stop your shameful argument. It makes sense not to argue with ***barred word*** people like you
@wofa kk, listen, when the fundamentals of your thought patterns are weak and marred by dirty politics, your actions and comments will expose you.You have a problem with those apportioning blames to the government in power who are in a hurry to take credit from this project anyway but you have no problems with the one asking the NDC chairman in that area to be arrested? Who should we blame? Who's in power and in charge of everything in this country? Whose oversight responsibility is it to ensure that everything works properly and orderly in this country? Who has to prioritise health and safety issues in this country and ensure that every sector incorporates health and safety issues with all seriousness and urgency? How can you test drive a train on a newly created rail tracks without first inspecting the tracks? Especially when you know that per how this country has been governed since years back, most citizens are so irresponsible that they could be doing anything around the tracks and you could cause casualties. The problems start and end with government, period!!!
@kk; if leaders and people incharge cannot be blamed for this needless accident, then tell me who should be blamed? JDM as usual, right? Since the project is new, and the first time a trian is on the tracks, there should have been an advance team, say 1 kilometer ahead checking and clearing the tracks if needed. This is common sense! The communities around may not be even aware of any incoming train.
@Larry so you are blaming the president and his vice for the cause of the train crash? Ohh no no no blackman - What at all did the Creator add to the mindset of the black people at the time of creation to have all these people in our midst?
@Afro Moses; up your thinking small. On what basis should the ndc chairman be arrested? If ppl like u based on your thinking now, forming the npp, you see ghana can never move forward. What checks did the railway authority did on the tracks that morning before moving the train since it was a try trip to check whether the tracks are clear. Your leader have no brains, same way Bawumia behaves. And we keep saying this all the time.
The NDC chairman for that area must be arrested for this
The Man Jesus was right, he quotes; ''Happy are the poor in spirit for………’’ In other words sadness will be yours who are rich in spirit/spirituality for you shall suffer. In Africa, Ghana, we are so rich and well skilled in spirituality, witchcraft, wicked propaganda, wizards, juju, sorcery, bewitchments, soothsaying, divination, and the likes, but none of these have helped us since independence. ‘’Abroo ne beyie’’ have filled us to the brim. How on earth could this happen, such a beautiful and helpful venture that will benefit the masses could be met with such a catastrophe. May God have mercy on us.
Complete disgrace. The Ghanaian is indisciplined and refuses to mature politically. I’ll leave it at that!
