Tension is mounting between the youth in the Ahanta West Municipality and the Ghana Rubber Estate over community mining [galamsey] activities within GREL's plantations.
An attempt by the anti-illegal mining taskforce - Operation Vanguard on Monday morning to eject the illegal miners numbering over 800 was fiercely resisted.
The operators chanted war songs.
The Operation Vanguard team had to abort the operation because of the resistance from the illegal miners.

As a mother and a leader, make sure you desist from pushing hard to engaging in Galamsey specifically in Asamang Tamfoe in the Atiwa East Constituency. You are the kind of people who are making Nana Addo and the NPP administration difficult. The people of Asamang Tamfoe are ready to defend our land in whatever capacity, even when it demands making the Ultimate Sacrifice. 'Yen Ara Asaase ni''. Anyinam, Mampong and Ankaase are just but a few communities within the catchment area that are woefully suffering and as a result of irresponsible leadership (especially their traditional leaders). River Birim is now running like ''THIS WAY CHOCOLATE DRINK', nea wo hia ne bucket ne sugar. Nana is loosing real big because some infidels in the party are burnt on engaging in Galamsey. Kate, your name is being soiled come clean on this and make a public statement to wash your hands off it. Integrity is key.
