The Acting Chief Executive Officer National Health Insurance Authority Dr. Baaba Dsane – Selby, has indicated that it is possible for Ghana and other African nations to achieve the Universal Health Coverage (UHC).
She stated that African countries have to adapt to the UHC and fit it into their respective national contexts.
Dr. Dsane-Selby said this at Marie Stopes Ghana and PharmAcess Foundation Ghana Healthy Returns programme on the theme "the role of the private sector in delivering of the Universal Health Coverage sharing lessons from the African Health Markets for equity".
Dsane-Selby explained that Ghana is looking at a population base payment system to ensure that the scheme covers everybody, urging that "we need to look for initiatives to change the narratives around our membership.
Dr. Dsane-Selby observed the need for every citizen, especially the poor to be brought onboard the health insurance scheme.
She said they want to ensure that by 2030 every citizen poor or rich should have access to proper health care.
She promised that latest by next month all arrears owned by National Health Insurance will be cleared.
Country Director of PharmAccess Ghana Mr. Maxwell Antwi,also explained the motive behind the conference.
