Residents of Nima, Accra, are going to be beneficiaries of a well-developed community, Minister for Inner City and Zongo Development, Boniface Abubakar Saddique has revealed.
“For now, the best thing to do is to ensure that the place is beautified and for us to bring better sanitation management within the area to reduce some of the problems they encounter.”
He also stated that plans were far-advanced to establish a senior high school in Nima under the Inner City and Zongo Development Ministry.
The Madina Member of Parliament (MP) disclosed that his ministry has medium and long term plans to engage landlords and members of the various Zongos for a discourse to decide what is best for them.
“We will have a proper discussion with the people,” he stated, “if they agree, a memorandum of understanding would be signed, and investors will put up high-rise buildings in the area.”
Boniface Abubakar Saddique, who was speaking in an interview on TV3’s New Day on yesterday, said funds allocated to his ministry will be put to judicious use in addressing issues that require urgent attention in Zongos and inner cities across the country.
The former Salaga MP also gave an indication for the completion of the Nima storm drain, which has been stalled for some time, adding that his ministry has been mandated to ensure infrastructural and sanitation enhancement towards the development of Zongos and inner cities in the country.
He further noted that his ministry was putting measures in place to control crime and ensure security in such areas.
Alhaji Abubakar said there was the need for a collaborative effort between his ministry and other ministries and government agencies in achieving the developmental agenda.

I have never understood this policy of zongo development that barwumia and the npp government are introducing. Infact, across the country, there are countless of homeless Ghanaians who not from the zongoes. These people find it difficult getting just one square meal. Yes, I agree zongoes should be developed, but all Ghanaians living in zongoes? The name chosen for the program is discriminatory. It should be titled national development fund instead of zongo development fund. This would eliminate any belief that the policy is for only certain Ghanaians. I know many people from the zongoes who are richer than than those who don't come from there. Barwumia is a zongo guy but today he is the vice president. The high rising buildings must be for all Ghanaians and not only zongoes. Lots of workers in Accra and kumasi as well as other cities are paying so much money on rent, yet because of politics the government want to discriminate against them.
I have always known this policy of Zongo development fund has no direction. It was a matter of time until perhaps others would also understand, this policy is so u-seless, ofcourse just like the promise of building hostels for kayayers. This government is so ***barred word***.
Very laughable. Is this what they call Zongo development. This guy needs to be fired straight away. What a ridiculous way to define development.
Make people have a living and go get themselves decent acomodation....
Yes but not necessary high rise building it could be 5 or 4 storys all over and those landlords should be given houses in replacement, with proper design all the building in Nima could be placed in 1/3 of the total area of Nima then the rest of the land could be apartments and playing ground the government can even released part for investors not even Nima all the citys in Ghana must be redesigned.
