A 32-year-old woman, Hawa Sulley, is in the custody of the Nkoranza police in the Brong-Ahafo Region for allegedly stealing a 3-year-old boy, Kwabena Samuel.
Father of the child, Yirenkyi Samuel, reported the missing of his son to the police on February 19, 2017 and the police subsequently made announcements on local radio stations regarding the whereabouts of the boy. Some people who heard the announcement reportedly informed the police that they saw a woman distributing biscuits to some children in the area.
It was later said that Hawa had allegedly lured Kwabena and taken him to a village called Dankwa where she purportedly sold him to another person.
Not long after that, the Odikro of Dankwa, Nana Odubo II, accompanied by his elders, brought Hawa together with the toddler to the police station on hearing the announcement. Samuel was however, found to be unconscious and was rushed to the hospital for treatment.
Nkoranza municipal police commander, ASP Joseph Owusu, confirmed the incident to the media and said the woman would be arraigned before court.
He would not give further details and only said investigation was ongoing.
