The head of Research at the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KIPKTC) Dr. Kwesi Aning has challenged government to indicate which law backs the operations of the task fore established to retrieve state assets.
"We should know who they report to, which laws back them in their operations and many more. It will be better if the Task force is recognized and made visible to the general public," Dr. Aning said on Starr FM Monday.
Government has set up a task force to retrieve state properties, which they believe, are in private hands.
It follows the seizure of some vehicles belonging to NDC national organizer Kofi Adams by some state security officials.
However, the security expert stressed that government must disclose the identity of the membership of the task force and also have an identifiable office where individuals seeking to volunteer information can walk in.
According to him, such a move will bring transparency and decency to the work of the task force.
He added: “If the state suspects that its properties have been misappropriated, they must have procedures to retrieve them. Asking neighbors and ordinary people to help in providing information on the assets is a ‘no no’, because there are professionally trained state institutions who are capable of doing these things. Those who have in their Possession State properties should return them”.

Do you need a law to retrieve state assets? Sorry, I don't think so, Dr Annin. President has sworn an oath to protect state property and allow him to do it. Dr Annin, you want to bring in bureaucracy and introduce corruption into the process. Chief of Staff is a representative of the President and hence the presidency is in charge. So you -educated chaps make corruption too difficult to fight. Those people stealing state resources used very crude way to do it but Dr Annin didn't ask them any questions. Asiedu-Nketia and John Mahama would say don't disturb private citizens but Kofi Adams is not a private citizen. THEY WERE RULING THIS COUNTRY
I don't think Dr Annin has lived and worked in USA before, else he wouldn't say such things. Why do we always have excuse for wrong doers who never try to do anything good. They know very well what they are doing is kriminal, yet they go ahead and do them. If sanctions are applied against them, they shamelessly complain.
Let us not find any positives about the wrongdoings of those perpetrators all in the name of the law. Sir , can you tell me which of the functionaries of Prez Obama made away with any state property? Why do we brook such illegality all in the name of the law. Must we always allow crimes to be committed before we find ways to deal with them? THE BEST THING YOU COULD HAVE DONE AS A CITIZEN WAS TO DISCOURAGE POLITICAL APPOINTEES TO NEVER TAKE STATE ASSETS ALONG WITH THEM WHEN THEY EXIT OFFICE. So, upon this advice of the Chief of Staff to all those concerned to return the assets, if they are really law abiding, they will return those assets, but kriminal as they are, they are still keeping them. If brutal action is applied to them, I don't have any sympathy for them at all.
Why are you worried about a task force going after ***barred word*** who have stolen state property? Some people hiding behind a so-called Chinese company called Anaina have "bought" GCAA lands of over 840 acres and shared it. The Army Commander's residence has also been sold clandestinely to some people again hiding behind a Chinese company. The same people have used Rev Wengam as the Chairman of the Prisons Service Board to buy all the parcel of land at the Prisons Headquarters at Osu, Bostal Institute at Roman Ridge. Ramsar Sites around Accra and Tema have been taken over by people acting on behalf of the president and his brother. About 200 vehicles at the presidency have gone missing while there were supposed to be responsible people at the Flagstaff House. Why would Dr. Annin complain about a task Force trying to retrieve stalen state assets? I have a lot of respect for Dr. Annin and I expect him to be a patriot. Will he say the ***barred word*** should be left to get away with the stole property so we as a nation will encourage future officers to get away with same behaviour? Think again Dr. Annin.
And which law bars them too? This man finds his voice only when NPP is in power.
