Political Scientist and lecturer at the University of Ghana, Dr. Bossman Asare has called on politicians particularly those with presidential ambitions to own a house of their choice before contesting in presidential elections.
In an interview with Kaakyire Ofori Ayim on Atinka FM’s “Simpieso” on Tuesday , he mentioned that any person who cannot afford a deserving house or home for a President is not worth the presidency.
Dr. Bossman Asare also said Ghana needs not follow such path because moving forward there would be more ex-presidents, explaining that they should follow the same trend as the Judges do.
And that every former President should be able to build or buy his or her own house. He mentioned that even assemblymen are able to build a house for themselves and as well live a comfortable living

Masa bi serious.do u actually think that Mahama doesn't own a house??.Do u have an idea of how many luxurious mansions n properties those people have home n abroad?..Ghana were complaining bcos he doesn't need to keep his cantonment house..its an official residence for vice presidents..someone left if for him n he must do likewise thats all..for an official residence is no problwm cos everyone derseves an end of service package
To cancel that precedence, make sure Rawlings gives up his state given estate. Else it will not be fair to subsequent ex-presidents. After 19 years in power, Rawlings could have built a descent house for his family. He is mute on this matter. He should come out and speak on this issue, if he is the anti-corrupt czar of the nation. President Kuffour was not given one either, neither was President Limann.
Also when you work for any company, no matter your position, the company is not responsible for your transport, fuel, accommodation, etc. Most companies have 401K (SNNIT) benefits, Health and Dental Insurance benefits, Out-of-station allowance, and other similar benefits. These benefits are acceptable and reasonable. I find it difficult to understand why in a poor country like Ghana, we offer such perks to public office holders. It is a huge drain on our coffers. Why should the company fuel your, car, offer you accommodation, buy you a car...?
Some of these lecturers who have abandoned the lecture halls to become political commentators say very ***barred word*** things sometimes. Which ex-president do you think does not own his own house if not houses. People talk too much in this country.
