Workers in Ghana are embarking on a nationwide demonstration to protest the harsh economic conditions in the country.
A statement signed by Mr Kofi Asamoah, Trades Union Congress (TUC) General Secretary on Wednesday, entreated �all industries and employers and all well-meaning Ghanaians feeling the pinch of the [harsh economic] situation to support and join this clarion call�
It said workers in the Greater Accra Region are to converge at the Obra Spot, Kwame Nkrumah Circle at 6:30am on Thursday.
The nationwide demonstration is expected to take place simultaneously in all the 10 regions of the country.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service has assured the workers of protection during the demonstration despite earlier indications that they were understaffed.
A statement signed by DCOP (Rev) David Ampah-Bennin, said the police had finalised arrangements to provide security for the demonstrators.
He said the necessary preparations had been made to ensure law and order for the citizenry to go about their economic and social activities without hindrance.
