Mr Henry Ekow Manly-Spain, an aspiring Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has advocated harsh punishment for those who smuggle arms and ammunitions to fuel conflicts.
According to him, the continuous carting of arms and ammunitions by unscrupulous group of people and individuals with the intent of causing conflicts to achieve their parochial interests is posing serious national security threat.
Mr Manly-Spain, who was speaking in an interview with Ghana News Agency in Accra, said such activities led to the bloody conflicts in Bimbilla, Bawku, Yendi and Nkonya-Alavanyo.
He praised the security agencies for containing such conflicts but appealed to them to flush out all unauthorised arms from the system.
The aspiring NDC Chairman also expressed dissatisfaction over unnecessary criticism by Ghanaians without offering the best alternative to address them, focusing on the current economic challenges.
He noted that for the sake of national interest, critics need to define the best options they consider prudent to deal with national challenges.
No matter our political differences we must all share ideas with each other especially in our various fields of endeavour to liberalise Ghana from the current economic challenges, he said.
