Public sector workers will from October this year be paid via the e-zwich payment system.
The Controller and Accountant General's Department, CAGD, is therefore liaising with the Ghana Interbank Payment Settlement System to put in the necessary mechanisms to rid the payroll of fraud at the point of payment.
Under the new arrangement, civil servants will be required to sign up for the e-zwich payment system.
The Public Relations Officer of CAGD, Gilbert Nyaledzigbor, explained that the new initiative is aimed at eliminating double bank accounts and the duplication of names on government payroll.
The Bank of Ghana in line with this initiative has directed all commercial and rural banks to make the e-zwich payment system available at all branches, so that civil servants can access.
The Controller and Accountant General will also issue guidelines to educate employees on the benefits of the e-zwich system.
Mr Nyaledzigbor explained that the e-zwich payment system is a follow-up to the biometric registration of civil servants and pensioners which began in 2012.
