A STUDENT aged 25 died of grief just two hours after her best pal passed away. Stunning Yasmina Sugliano was so distressed at the loss of 23-year-old Portia Jones she suffered a fatal heart attack.
The pair grew close over two years while having gruelling hospital treatment for lung disease cystic fibrosis.
Yasmina's devastated mum Kay said last night: "She got such a shock from Portia's death her heart went into a dangerous, irregular beat and it didn't recover. "From what the nurses told me the grief could have triggered an underlying heart condition. "I don't think it was the CF she had kicked that in the butt."
Recently-wed Portia, of Chessington, Surrey, had been on a waiting list for a double lung transplant when she died last week. Yasmina, a student at the London University for the Creative Arts, also suffered dilated cardiomyopathy, which makes the heart weak and enlarged.
She was in hospital with a suspected chest infection when she died.
Kay said she had been on generally good form and excited about a family holiday to the Caribbean island of St Lucia this weekend. But when she heard about Portia's death she went into cardiac arrest. Medics battled in vain to save her.
Kay, of Crawley, West Sussex, added: "They pulled each other up when one was down. They loved each other very much. I feel empty. My insides have been ripped out."
CF, which affects 9,000 Brits, clogs internal organs and many patients do not live beyond 30.
