The Trades Union Congress (TUC) will constitute a committee of union veterans to advice the organisation on how to convince affiliated unions, whose activities borders are similar, to merge to promote effectiveness and efficiency.
Disclosing this to Ghana News Agency on Monday, Dr Anthony Yaw Baah, Deputy General Secretary of TUC said the organisation had already initiated moves to merge some of the unions.
The unions likely to merge are the General Agriculture Workers Union and the Timber Workers Union, the Ghana Railway Workers' Union and Enginemen's Workers Union.
The rest are the General Transport Petroleum and Chemical Workers Union, Maritime and Dockworkers Union and the National Union of Seamen.
The Union of Industry Commerce and Financial Services and Industrial and Commercial workers Union, among other groups are being persuaded to come together.
Dr Baah said though the merging seemed difficult, with time and understanding the TUC's objective would be realized.
