The Mpraeso Circuit Court has sentenced the two Police Officers who were involved in a robbery incident at Afram Plains in the Eastern region to 36 months imprisonment with hard labour.
The two were prosecuted on two counts; Conspiracy to escape from lawful custody and escape from lawful custody.
On the first count they were sentenced to 12 months imprisonment with hard labour and 36 months imprisonment with hard labour for the second count. Both sentence are expected to run concurrently.
The two Police officers were arrested in August last year after an attack on a bullion van which led to the death of the vehicle driver.
Another Police officer who was escorting the vehicle was also wounded.
The incident happened at Maame Krobo in the Affram Plains South district of the Eastern region.
The bullion van had no money in it at the time of the attack.
The two police officers identified as Corporal Elvis Mensah and Lance Corporal Daniel Kissi managed to escape after they were arrested.
The escape led to clashes between police and angry residents in the district leading to a police station being set ablaze but they were swiftly re-arrested.

You guys must seek understanding and stop polluting the minds of Ghanaians. The two have been convicted for 1. conpiracy to escape from lawful custody and 2. escaping from lawful custody. The substantive case of robbery and murder is ongoing at a diffferent court. Ghanaians reda! My people learn to read!!
What is this! Only 36 months for this wicked act? The judiciary must be joking. This is injustice to the family of the murdered. The judge has either be compromised or mistaken reportage. God save us.
I think there will be a separate trial for the murder. this sentence is just for two counts of robbery and attempting to escape.
i don't want to believe this but, if it is true then the judge must be investigated.how can someone be jail 5 years for smoking weed and sentence someone who commit murder, robbery and again escape from police custode. this is mere common sense.
i dont want to believe what am hearing. with all due respect to the trial judge, he is a disgrace to the judiciary.
I think they will be tried separately at a higher court for murder. That can carry a death sentence
This sentencing cast an indictment on the judiciary system in Ghana. The issues of this case are 1. Robbery 2. Murder 3. Escape from custody. So if with all this grivious crime committed the best corresponding punishment is just 36 months IHL....then there must be something wrong.Honestly I can't think far...the verdict court must be reviewed.
