Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, who has nurtured presidential hopes since 2007, on Monday confirmed his resignation from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and announced a new ambition to vie for the presidency in 2024 as an Independent candidate.
The former Minister of Trade and Industry said he offered a new hope beyond the duopoly of the NPP and the National Democratic Congress (NDC), and promised to establish and lead a new "movement for change" in Ghana, one of inclusivity that, he said, would make room for the NPP and the NDC, and other parties and political organisations should he win the presidential polls.
While the Fourth Republic is not lacking in political parties of different persuasions, none had come close to usurping the supremacy of the NPP and the NDC.
Those who finish in third place always come at a big distance from the two front runners, and usually of the Nkrumaist stock.
Over the years, parties such as the Progressive People’s Party (PPP), People’s National Convention (PNC) and the Convention People’s Party (CPP) have faded in popularity and votes, sometimes making a combined total of less than five per cent of the total votes.

Whether farce or reality, Ghana desperately needs a third force and discerning Ghanaians will push for that. I can guarantee you with Bawumia in the lead for NPP, he will struggle to get 30% of the total vote cast of 2024 even with rigging support . You people think that in this age Ghanaians wash their faces upside down? No neutral person wil vote for Bawumia! Time will tell.
There is no Ghanaian who can contest the for the presidency as an independent candidate and be a third force. Allan knows he cannot never win the presidential elections standing as an independent presidential candidate. The fear however is that if he manages to garner 1.5-2% of total valid votes cast in 2024, that will derail the NPP's chances of " breaking the 8". Allan has openly come out to pour his frustrations about happenings in the current NPP, what about the silent majority who are also habouring similar feelings but are quietly waiting on December 7, 2024 to speak to the ballot paper or may even decide not to vote at all? If anyone had told John Mahama h will lose the 2016 elections by close to 1, 000,000 votes, he would have said impossible. But what happened, he only got to know he had lost when counting of ballots started by which time it was too late. Fact is, people are not happy, and these are the people who are going to vote. Allan may not be able to build, but ask yourself, can he pull down? Time will tell.
Tweaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa 10th Force. The man's political career is over.
