The Management of Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) has launched TV licence fee pay points across the country to ensure easy access for payment and efficient and effective means of collection.
The pay points are also to ensure transparency and accountability, as well as facilitate payment and prevent dishonest people from collecting the fee.
The Reverend Ebenezer Botwi, Deputy Director of Finance of GBC said the activated pay points included online platforms, online payments, Banks, mobile banking, mobile money, and through the Ghana Post.
Rev. Botwi explained that the aggregators online platform include e-tranzact, IT consortium while the online payments include visa card, master card and genesis card, with U mobile, Access mobile, Atlantic mobile , B mobile and ETZ mobile as the mobile bank points.
He said some of the activated mobile money platform include MTN mobile money, Tigo cash, Airtel cash and Nsano, an SMS platform where the user texts to short code *718*28#.
The banks include Zenith Bank, UT Bank, UBA, GT Bank, Access Bank, UMB, Fidelity Bank, Bank of Africa, First Atlantic Bank, Energy Bank, Capital Bank, UNIBank, HFC Bank and Agricultural Development Bank.
Rev Botwi noted that other mobile bank pay points to be activated soon by January 30, 2016 were the manual and electronic licence agents across the country and private Electricity Company of Ghana vendors.
He said other pay points such as National Information Technology Agency, G- Link, Vodafone cash, Unicredit savings and loans and other banks which have not been activated would be activated latest by the end of January, 2016.
Rev Botwi noted that other pay points being considered and due to be activated in February next year include entry ports such as the airport, habours and land ports, collections at sales outlets, deduction from salaries at source and regional offices of the Ghana Tourism Authority.
Mr Peter Opoku Mensah, Director of Internal Audit, GBC, explained that for a user to effect payment, the user must first complete a TV licence ownership form on the GBC website: www.tvlicence.com.gh.
He said there were two forms namely, the domestic or sole proprietorship for individuals, and entity for partnerships and companies adding that the completion of the form electronically was a one-off activity but mandatory and took only few minutes.
Mr Mensah said after payment, electronic printed receipts would be issued to users who paid in instalments and a licence for full payment only, and that both payments would be confirmed.
