The father of Ebenezer Opoku Agyemang, a student at Beposo Islamic High School, has accused the authorities of Asante Mampong Municipal Hospital for charging him exorbitant fee for treating his son for a snake bite.
Mr Opoku Agyemang said although treatment for snake bites at health facilities in the country is heavily subsidised by the government he spent GH₵ 300 including anti-snakebite serum that was prescribed for him.
When contacted, Mr Otchere Korsah, the hospital pharmacist explained that treatment of snakebite at the hospital including the cost of the anti-snakebite serum is virtually free and could not understand why Mr Opoku was asked to pay so much.
He said the drug is not for sale and so the directive to the victim’s father to buy the drug “was questionable and would be investigated".
