A 36 year old woman suspected to be a member of a drug syndicate has been arrested at Ankaful Maximum Security Prison in Cape Coast for attempting to smuggle a substance suspected to be marijuana also known as weed to inmates.
The well packaged substance was to be delivered to Kwame Adu, an inmate of the facility serving 65 yrs – the suspect confessed.
According to the Public Relation Officer of the prison, ASP Daniel Machator, the woman was arrested in the mid hours of Wednesday, March 29.
He told Peacefmonline.com reporter, Nana Sankah that the drugs were found in her sports slippers when they found out that it has been tempered with.
“Security officers at the gate opened the slippers and found quantities of the substance embedded in them. Upon interrogation, she claimed she was sent by her husband, George Kumah, who is a brother to the inmate to deliver the consignment,” ASP Daniel Machator said.
The suspect has since been handed over to the Elmina Police to assist in investigations.
